First Ever Michigan Wine Dinner May 19
Chicago Cooks Michigan Pours! Event Offers Unique Farm to Vine Experience at Uncommon Ground
Chicago Area – On May 19, Chicagoans get to taste the best of Michigan wines without traveling further than Uncommon Ground. In a unique partnership between a trio of local food & wine enthusiasts, a handful of artisanal Michigan wineries and Uncommon Ground, Edgewater, the first of a series of Michigan wine focused dinners — and a first for Chicago — kicks off on Sunday, May 19, 2013.
“Chicago Cooks Michigan Pours! offers the best of our local fare, paired with wonderful vintages you may otherwise never get the chance to try,” notes Travis Todd, General Manager, Uncommon Ground, Edgewater. "And, you get to meet the winemakers and know first hand what makes Michigan such an outstanding source of internationally award winning wines.”
Guests will start the evening off on Uncommon Ground’s Rooftop Farm with seasonal appetizers, paired with Chateau Chantal Tonight sparkling wine and meet the winemakers whose selections they will be savoring.
A signature Three Course dinner focuses on wine pairings from Fenn Valley Vineyards, Black Star Farms and ends with sweet trio of desserts accompanied by a cocktail prepared with Chateau Chantal Cinq a Sept grape brandy.
A trio of local entrepreneurs created the event based on their research of Michigan Wine Country and their love of all things Chicago.
Mark Ganchiff, publisher, Midwest Wine Press, explains, “With my partners, I discovered wonderful wines throughout Leelanau, Old Mission and Lake Michigan Shore, but few opportunities to enjoy them here in Chicago, so we took the initiative to create regular events showcasing award-winning wines for these special dinners.”
Dileep Gangolli, owner of Evanston Cellars, adds, “The Michigan Grape Industry & Wine Council has provided enthusiastic support of this dinner concept, by providing a bottle of choice Michigan wine free to each dinner guest as an added value to the evening.”
Sharon Meyers, Evanston-based food and beverage industry publicist, sees the bounty of Michigan wines as so vast that the she, Mark and Dileep envision a series of Chicago Cooks Michigan Pours! dinners to present the best of what local Chicago fare can offer with Michigan’s award winning vintages.
The evening’s menu will include assorted appetizers, a roasted beet salad, a tagine of lamb with mint, and three different desserts. All courses will include wine carefully paired to highlight the fresh flavors on the plate.
This event is limited to the first 50 guests who register at $90 per guest. This price is all inclusive and starts with a Meet the Winemakers reception that will feature three appetizers and sparkling wine, the Three Course dinner paired with Michigan vintages, and all taxes and gratuities.
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketleap or by calling 847.571.1499 to reserve a space.
